First Give Finals

The First Give programme inspires and empowers young people to take action to make a positive change in society. They are a charity who work in partnership with schools to deliver an innovative and interactive programme.

Over the last 3 terms Year 7 & 8 students have been researching current issues that they have identified within the local community and looked at which charities help with these issues.

Each class had two terms to plan and deliver a social action aiming at improving other students' awareness of the social issue but to also raise money for their chosen charity.

The classes then presented this to First Give showing how their social action went, what the impact of the social action was and why their charity would be deserving of the £1,000.00 prize that would go directly to their charity.

The classes and their chosen charities were:

7 Oak -    ADHD UK

7 Maple- DAVVS

7 Pine -   Samaritans

7 Birch -  Homestart Medway

7 Elm -    Rewrite your story

8 Oak-      Ellenor

8 Maple-  Second Chance Animal Rescue Sanctuary

8 Birch -   Diabetes UK

8 Elm -     Rewrite your story

We had a range of actions from mystery chalk quotes on the playground, staff v students rounders, cake sales, football festivals, silent sit down protests, quiz events and delivering form time sessions.

The winners were:

Year 7 - BIRCH  for the Homestart Medway charity and Year 8 - ELM - for the  Rewrite your story charity, both charities have received a £1000 donation each.

Well done to all the students and all staff involved. It was a great event and an excellent opportunity to raise money and awareness for local charities dealing with local issues.
