Science

On Friday 18th March a group of students from Orchards Academy participated in a Science fair at Kemnal Technology College. To enter the competition, students had to design and present a project based on the theme of ‘Our World of Science’.

We took eight students from Years 7 – 10 who focused on a range of projects including ‘How does water affect the growth of plants?’, ‘How can we generate electricity from water?’ and ‘Can a single star destroy the Earth?’.

At the fair the students presented their projects to the four competition judges and were asked some difficult questions! It was a great opportunity for them to practice their communication and public speaking skills and they did a fantastic job.

In total there were about 25 entries in the competition and our students faced some tough competition from the projects presented by the Kemnal Technology College students. However, we are delighted to say one of our students won the competition with their project on ‘How do sunflowers help plant growth in radioactive soil?’ and were awarded a prize of a £100 Amazon voucher!

It was a fantastic trip for all of those involved, our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and gained some good experience.

We look forward to attending again next year!
