Remote Learning Curriculum

Here at Orchards Academy we provide a range of live remote learning for students. Our primary support provision is the availability of teachers to their classes during the actual lesson they teach to give guidance, help and feedback as lessons occur.

We offer a diverse range of voice over and recorded lessons which students can access not only during the lesson but repeatedly should they miss the lesson or need to recap on a specific question or task.

We expect to continue to extend and refine our live remote provision using more platforms such as Loom and YouTube which we use already across many subjects and year groups.

A wide range of work is set using video clips, teacher sound bites and instructions that can be played and repeated as needed. We also offer live orals for foreign language students and small group reading with a teacher for those students who are part of our catch up programmes. In addition, there are practical videos & demonstrations for more active or hands on tasks in subjects such as PE, Art and Drama. There are weekly assemblies for year groups too and these again can be replayed as needed, together with tutorials on how to make the most of Google Classrooms. Students also have access to our PSHCE curriculum known as STRIVE.

All remote learning is monitored on a daily basis by senior staff.

We have a dedicated weekly page which is for extended learning which all the family can enjoy and use collaboratively including literacy and numeracy tasks, recommended films and books and live links to current events of interest to our families. These can be found under the Newsletter tab on our website.

To support our students and their families there are regular welfare calls to parents so that any issues can be raised and addressed promptly, including any help needed with remote learning.

A TKAT parent support page has been created to assist parents.

This includes information on Google support for parents and students including TKAT videos and slides on how to access the Google classroom, how to hand in documents, how to access via an Xbox, PS4 or Smart TV and lots of other information you may find helpful.

Further additional information will be added to this site to support parents including FAQ's as needed.
