Sporting Results and Sports Club Updates

Gymnastics and Trampolining club

On a Thursday after school from 3-4:00 we run a gymnastics and trampolining club. Students are able to spend time practicing techniques they want to improve in this club and with the help of 2 or 3 staff members they can improve on a variety of aspects. We also allow students to work on apparatus in the gymnasium that they may not always use in normal PE lessons. Students need to bring full PE kit (t-shirt and shorts or tracksuit bottoms) but will not need trainers only socks to take part on the trampolines.

Boxing at Orchards Academy - Wednesday 3:15- 4:15

On a Wednesday after school we are also lucky enough to have a GB coach attend the school to put our children through their paces. The coach is based out of Sevenoaks boxing club and he has many affiliations with other clubs in the surrounding area.

Boxing club has been well attended and has been consistently attended by the same people, which is always a positive sign. The group are taught the art of boxing and not just how to throw a punch. Boxing club accommodates all abilities as fundamental skills can be consistently taught through every session. All of the necessary boxing equipment is provided by the coach but it has been pleasing to see the amount of children that have attended with their own gloves for example. This shows the level of enthusiasm and purpose that the club brings to the children.

Any new comers are always welcome no matter if sessions have been missed!

Roller Hockey - Tuesday  3:00- 4:15

At Orchards Academy we are lucky enough to have a GB coach that comes into the school to teach our children roller hockey. Coach B, as he likes to be called, runs a roller hockey club at White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley and is looking to ‘plant’ the seed amongst young children, to fuel a love for the sport which many would never try. When Coach B comes into Orchards, he is able to teach children that have never attempted to skate before as well as being able to develop those that have.  The main selling point about the club is the amount of fun that the children have. So far we have seen a good number of children turn up to the club and as the sessions have gone by, we are seeing an increase in numbers.  We hope to encourage more and more children to attend the club and hopefully be able to push a few onto teams outside of school.

All necessary equipment is provided by the coach and his many bags, however a selection of the group have their own skates and have played/play for teams outside of school.

Swimming Club- January 2017

The Orchards Academy Swimming Club in partnership with White Oak has been taking place on Tuesdays after school at the White Oak Leisure centre. A number of students have taken the opportunity to improve their swimming techniques and general fitness, the club attracts between 12 - 16 swimmers each week and is coached by two swim coaches from White Oak Swim Club. The club is open to all Orchards students, should any more students be interested in joining this club they should ask at the PE office for a parental consent letter.

Table Tennis Club- January 2017

Table Tennis club runs on a Monday after school 3-4pm, an experienced outside coach from Sutton at Hone comes in and delivers each session. Students learn a new skill each week at the start and then take part in a mini tournament allowing them to get a lot of game time. The club provides an opportunity for novices to learn the game as well as GCSE students to refine their skills at a higher level. We also aim to get as many students as possible interested and attending the Sutton at Hone table tennis club on a Friday evening,

Football December 2016

Last week the year 7 football team travelled to Welling School for a fixture. After conceding 4 goals in the first half and being 4-0 down at half time, the boys showed unbelievable fight and character to bring the game back to 4-4 with 5 minutes to go! Welling again took the lead 5-4 and, with 1 minute left on the clock, Orchards equalised and the game ended 5-5. A very entertaining game with some good football played by our youngsters.

16.11.16- Football

Nine year 7 and 8 girls competed in the Gillingham FC tournament today at Strood Sports centre. The girls came 3rd in their groups and scored 7 goals in the process. Very good individual performances as well as the team performance as they all worked together. Certificates to be given out in assembly by HOY.

14:11:16- Year 9 Football Match

Year 9 Orchards 2 v 6 St. Johns.

Despite playing well in the first half and the half time score being 2 - 3, the Orchards team conceded three more goals for the score to finish with a comfortable win for our opponents. There were some very good individual performances from our team.

District Cross Country

Well done to the 12 Orchards students who took part in the District Cross Country Championships that took place on Thursday 11th November. 6 of the 12 students managed to finish within the top 20 finishing positions, each race had between 80 - 100 competitors. A good effort by all those who represented the school.

26.10.16- Football

The year 8 boys played against Longfield Academy at home; unfortunately they were unable to take the win in a high scoring game. Despite the score being 3-5 the boys did an incredible job and look forward to the next game and hope to turn it around to seal a victory.
